Principe Guerriero

With the 2023 vintage, Il Principe Guerriero moves away from its original identity as a 100% Sangiovese Montescudaio DOC and becomes a blend of Cabernet and Merlot, classified as Costa Toscana IGT.

The wine is vinified in terracotta amphorae, as was likely done in the time of the Etruscan prince, whose tomb lies in the midst of our vineyards. With this significant change, we sought to establish a stronger connection to the “Etruscan Coast,” using the two grape varieties that symbolize this region—Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot—and employing the amphora, an ancient wine vessel. Thanks to its neutral properties as a container, the amphora allows for the wine's magnificent evolution and maturation, through which the characteristics of the grape varieties and the terroir are enhanced. The grapes undergo maceration in the amphora for about a month, followed by aging for about a year.

This is followed by an additional 12 months of bottle aging.
